Fruit update: August 5 2022

This week’s fruit update from Tom:
It’s all about the plums!

Plums are well underway with plenty of ripe Lancelot to pick at the moment. The first Victorias are turning colour and there will be plenty from about the 10th August for the next 4 weeks or so. People often neglect other varieties when Victorias are on but do try the Seneca, Mallard and Swan, all delicious when ripe. Both the Greengages and the Apriums (a cross between apricot and plum) are ripening now and should be good for the first half of August. Like the cherries, the problem is that they get picked out fast!

Apples are not quite ready yet, about another 10 days for the Estival, but they appear to be making a good size despite the lack of water.

Autumn raspberries have not got going yet and it looks as though the crop will be poor due to the drought. We continue to have blackberries but they too are desperate for water now.

Over the summer we’re open everyday 9am-5:30pm. You are not required to book, just come along. Enjoy your picking!
