You will be glad to know that we have decided that we can open the farm for pick your own this summer. Obviously we will have to take a number of measures to ensure social distancing and protect you and ourselves from Covid transmission, but there is plenty of space and I am sure everyone will get great fruit and enjoy themselves.
Although it is an early year I do not expect to open before early June for strawberries, with cherries from the middle of June and other fruits ripening in their seasons. Before then I will put up a set of rules on the website, and notices on the farm.
On to the fruit, much more interesting!
The very wet winter was bad for most fruit crops on our heavy soil, especially raspberries, and the apricots flowers rotted in the rain as they were early. But since the middle of March the weather has been very kind for pollination and fruit development (including lack of disease and pest attack) and prospects look pretty good. We could do with some rain now, but growers are never satisfied…
We are looking forward to welcoming you back to the farm, and although it is early to be planning a trip, do think about coming weekday mornings when we are less busy and it will be easier to keep your distance!
