Maynards Pick Your Own 2020

You will be glad to know that we have decided that we can open the farm for pick your own this summer. Obviously we will have to take a number of measures to ensure social distancing and protect you and ourselves from Covid transmission, but there is plenty of space and I am sure everyone will get great fruit and enjoy themselves.

Although it is an early year I do not expect to open before early June for strawberries, with cherries from the middle of June and other fruits ripening in their seasons. Before then I will put up a set of rules on the website, and notices on the farm.

On to the fruit, much more interesting!

The very wet winter was bad for most fruit crops on our heavy soil, especially raspberries, and the apricots flowers rotted in the rain as they were early. But since the middle of March the weather has been very kind for pollination and fruit development (including lack of disease and pest attack) and prospects look pretty good. We could do with some rain now, but growers are never satisfied…

We are looking forward to welcoming you back to the farm, and although it is early to be planning a trip, do think about coming weekday mornings when we are less busy and it will be easier to keep your distance!

  3. Thank you for all the work that has gone into getting the farm ready for opening this summer. We walk through the farm many times a week and are grateful for what you all do. Look forward to fabulous fruit.

  4. My husband and I loved coming and would love to bring my mother in law this year for strawberries and cherries, when would be best to come please?

    1. Hi Caitlin, We’re open now but just have strawberries. We hope cherries will be ready in 2-3 weeks. That would be the best time to come to get both strawberries and cherries – but we will put a post out when the cherries are ready!

  5. Wonderful news. Having been in lockdown as “vulnerable” at home in Orpington since 13 March, we are really looking forward to visiting you again a number of times this summer, hopefully starting in a week or two.

  6. Hi Tom,
Glad to see you plan to open from Thursday. Any idea when Morellos will be ready for picking ?

    1. Hi Mehram,
At the moment it looks like end of June for Morellos – but we will make sure to post when they’re ready!

    1. Hi Stephen, apologies for the delay in replying – blackcurrants are ready and we have trays available in the shed – give us a call before you come to check how many we have – we can put some aside for you.

  7. Had a wonderful day today celebrating my mums birthday picking cherries. Your farm is lovely and cherries taste so sweet. Will definitely be coming back.

  8. Do I have to pre-book a slot before visiting? Planning to visit this weekend. I have a 4 adults and a child. My mum in law might need toilet facilities, just checking in advance if your facilities are open as well. Please advise. Thanks.

    1. Hi Fiona, Sorry for the delay in replying! We respond much faster on Facebook and Instagram, promise! You don’t need to pre-book, but we advise coming earlier in the day as that’s when it is at it’s quietest (we open at 9am everyday). The toilets are open, with anti-bacterial spray and wipes that we ask you use before and after.
      Tom
